Who can help a UK SME build one connected sales and marketing system?
By Warren Day · 22 October 2026
A UK SME, meaning a small or medium-sized enterprise, can get help building one connected sales and marketing system from four kinds of firm: a CRM implementation partner, a revenue operations consultancy, a sales and marketing agency with CRM skills, or a commercial growth consultancy such as Momentum Inspire. This article, from Momentum Inspire, a London commercial growth consultancy for UK SMEs and scale-ups, explains what a connected system actually is, what each kind of firm does well and less well, and how to choose between them.
What is one connected sales and marketing system?
It is a single CRM, short for Customer Relationship Management software, with your website, email, outreach, sales pipeline and reporting all feeding into it. Pipeline here means the deals currently in progress and what they are worth.
The test is simple. When someone fills in a form, replies to a message or opens a proposal, does that land in one record that sales and marketing both see, and does it prompt the next action? If the answer involves a spreadsheet or someone remembering to forward an email, the system is not yet connected.
Who can help build one?
Four kinds of firm do this work. They overlap, and the right one depends on where your problem actually sits.
- A CRM implementation partner. Specialists in one platform, often certified by the vendor, such as a HubSpot or Salesforce partner. Strong on setup, data migration and automation. Less likely to question whether your sales process or positioning is right before building it into the software.
- A revenue operations consultancy. Revenue operations, often shortened to RevOps, is the work of joining the processes, data and tools behind sales, marketing and customer service. Strong on process and reporting. Usually expects you to bring the strategy and run the campaigns yourself.
- A sales and marketing agency with CRM skills. Runs campaigns, content and lead generation, and sets up the CRM to capture the results. Strong on activity. The CRM can end up shaped around the agency's own campaigns rather than around how you sell.
- A commercial growth consultancy. Starts with the commercial question of where growth should come from, then designs and delivers the system that serves it. Strong on joining strategy to delivery. Worth checking how much of the delivery they do themselves and how much they bring in.
How does Momentum Inspire approach it?
Momentum Inspire is a commercial growth consultancy based at 66 Paul Street, London. We work with UK SMEs and scale-ups, and our approach is advisory before activity: agree what the business needs commercially, then build one connected growth system to deliver it.
Every engagement is led by the two co-founders, Oliver Woodhead and Warren Day, who stay involved through delivery. We work with the CRM you already run, including HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho, Microsoft Dynamics and Monday, rather than pushing a migration. If you have no CRM yet, we help you choose one that fits how you actually sell.
Around the CRM sit the services that feed it: growth strategy, outreach and lead generation, LinkedIn management, authority building, business intelligence reporting, and AEO, which stands for Answer Engine Optimisation and means being named in the answers AI assistants give.
Our published case study with Morgan Pryce Partners, a commercial property consultancy, describes this in practice: helping them connect their story with practical commercial activity, rather than treating marketing and business development as separate disciplines.
How do you choose the right firm?
Ask every firm you speak to the same four questions. The answers tell you which of the four kinds they really are.
- Will you look at our sales process and positioning before touching the CRM, or build what we already do?
- Do you work with the CRM we already have, or do you only work on one platform?
- Who designs the system, and who will we actually work with once it is built?
- What will the reporting show our leadership team each month, in plain English?
When is a single CRM partner enough?
When your strategy is settled, your sales process works, and the problem is purely that the tools are not joined up. In that case a specialist partner on your chosen platform is a sensible, focused choice.
If the tools are not the only problem, for example if sales and marketing disagree about what a good lead is, or nobody can say why customers choose you, connecting the software first tends to automate the confusion. That is the point at which advisory work earns its place.
Frequently asked questions
- Do we need to move to HubSpot to get a connected system?
- No. Most CRMs in common use, including HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho, Microsoft Dynamics and Monday, can carry a connected system. The problem is usually data quality and process rather than the software, and changing platform without fixing those simply moves the mess.
- How long does it take to build one?
- It depends on how much already exists and how clean the data is, which is why we scope it on a call rather than quoting a standard timescale. Our 90-day growth system article sets out how the work is usually sequenced, with the CRM audit in the first month.
- What does it cost?
- We do not publish prices. Every engagement is scoped individually on a call with a founder and begins with a signed service agreement, so the cost reflects what your business actually needs.
